Shaylin Crosby Scholarships

Honoring a legacy of courage, compassion, and water safety. The Shaylin Crosby Scholarship Fund partners directly with Wisconsin technical colleges to empower the next generation of EMTs, lifeguards, and first responders.

In our continuous effort to honor Shaylin’s legacy of action and service, the Shaylin Crosby Scholarship Fund is shifting to a direct-funding model starting in 2026.

To streamline support and eliminate administrative barriers for busy students, we are no longer requiring a separate scholarship application. Instead, funding is now disbursed directly through the financial aid and emergency medical program offices at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) and Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC).

By partnering directly with these institutions, we ensure that financial assistance goes straight to dedicated individuals training to become the next generation of EMTs and first responders, right when they need it most

In absence of 2025 Applications a donation was made in Shaylin’s honor to Camp Lakamaga.

Shaylin’s Story

Shaylin Crosby, age 21, tragically lost her life on August 15, 2024 when struck by a drunk driver while on a road trip with friends.  Shaylin was a lifelong helper and life saver.  Shaylin grew up in Milwaukee Wisconsin attending Milwaukee Public Schools throughout her childhood.  Shaylin also participated in recreation services through Milwaukee Public Schools including swim classes and competitive swimming.  At fifteen years old Shaylin was trained as a life guard through Milwaukee Public Recreation and the Red Cross and began life guarding and swim instruction as a Milwaukee Public Recreation employee.  Shaylin left Milwaukee Public Recreation to attend college in Illinois but did return to Milwaukee Public Recreation during breaks.

Shaylin was also involved in Girl Scouts in Milwaukee since grade school.  She attended Camp Silverbrook in West Bend each summer initially as a camper and then as a counselor in training and eventually becoming a camp life guard.  As an adult Shaylin began working at Camp Lakamaga in Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota each summer progressing from lifeguard to Waterfront director where she enjoyed assisting campers with all things aquatics and water safety.

In the Spring of 2024 Shaylin attended Chippewa Valley Technical School and obtained her certification as an EMT and worked as a swim instructor and lifeguard as the Chippewa Falls YMCA.

Shaylin was passionate about water safety and was especially concerned about needless loss of life of persons of color due to drowning.  Shaylin was well known for ability to engage with students any age, race, gender, and developmental ability.  Shaylin was beloved by her campers, students, peers, and leaders.
