The 2025 Scholarship will open on 1/1/2025.
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates must meet all of these minimum requirements to be considered for the scholarship.
- Applicants must have past or present employment as a lifeguard and/or swim instructor.
- Applicants must be a current Milwaukee County high school senior.
- Applicants must demonstrate a passion for helping others and are pursuing a career with a focus on helping others.
- In order to apply, candidates need to attend a post-secondary school during the 2025/2026 academic year. This scholarship can be awarded to students attending community college or trade schools. Students will be required to submit proof of admission, and registration or a course schedule that shows adequate units enrolled prior to disbursement of funds.
- Transcripts will be required for all scholarship finalists. Please report accurately on your application.
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Application (Open January 1, 2025)
- The essay and resume will be submitted through the application portal. Applicants must complete an essay (maximum 700 words) that demonstrates how you exhibit the characteristics of Shaylin Crosby and your educational goals.
- Transcripts will be required for verification upon request. (High school students should include the first semester).
Shaylin Crosby was a Swim Instructor, Lifeguard, and EMT that died in an accident on August 15, 2024. Shaylin exhibited an exceptional passion for helping others, water safety, compassion, athleticism, and scholastic performance. The Shaylin Crosby Scholarship will offer two scholarships in Shaylin’s memory. The Shaylin Crosby Scholarship Fund hopes to create a sustainable legacy through scholarship and water safety.
Timeline
- January 1, 2025 – Scholarship is open to applicants
- February 1, 2025 – Scholarship Application Deadline.
- May 2025 – Notification of award recipients.
